Histology

The purpose I share my medical syllabus during my era is to help me know the topic should I revise during my free time to improve my medical knowledge and to give an idea for future medical students about the topic they would learn in medical school.

Topic of Histology discussed during my time in Medical School:

A. LECTURE:
1. 1st semester:
a. Basic Science in Medicine (General Knowledge):
- Organisation of cell: Cell and tissue

2. 2nd semester:
a. Control System:
- Histological structure of nerve tissue: Cells of the nervous tissue
- Histological structure of central and peripheral nervous system: Central nervous system, spinal cord, nerve regeneration, synapse, peripheral nerves
- Histological structure of endocrine organs: Hypophysis/ pituitary gland, adrenal gland, thyroid gland, parathyroid gland, pineal gland, pancreas (islets of Langerhans), gastrointestinal endocrine system
b. Hematological and Immunological System:
- Differentiation and maturation of hematopoietic system cells: Stem cell, erythropoietic, granulopoietic, thrombopoietic, lymphopoietic system

3. 3rd semester:
a. Reproductive system:
- Histology of female reproductive organ: Ovary, genital tracts, placenta, breast
- Histology of male reproductive organ: Testes, ductal systems (efferent duct, epididymis, Deferens duct, ejaculatory duct, urethra), exocrine ducts (seminal vesicle, prostate gland, seminal fluid, semen), penis (structure of copulation organ, bulbourethral gland-Cowper)

4. 4th semester:
a. Dermatomusculoskeletal System:
- Histology of skin tissue: Epidermis, dermis, subcutaneous, vessel structure, skin sensoric receptor, special structure of skin
- Histology of musculo-skeletal: Histology of bone and cartilage, histology of muscle tissue
b. Cardiovascular System:
- Histology of cardiovascular system
c. Respiratory System:
- Histological structure of respiratory system

5. 5th semester:
a. Genitourinary System:
- Histology of kidney
- Histology of urinary tract
b. Gastrointestinal System:
- Histology of digestive system: Oral cavity, esophagus, stomach (cardia, fundus, corpus, pylorus), oral mucous, papillary of tongue, salivary gland, esophagus, small intestine (duodenum, jejunum, ileum), large intestine (colon, vermiformic appendix), rectum and anus
- Histology of digestive glands: Salivary gland, pancreas, liver, bile (duct and tract)
c. Special Senses System:
- Histology of ocular system: Tunica fibrosa (outer layer of eye - episclera, tenon capsule, suprachoroid lamina, cornea), middle layer - vascular layer (limbus, Schlemm's canal, corpus of cilia, ciliary process, iris, lens, vitreous body, retina) and additional eye structure (conjunctiva, eyelids, lacrimal apparatus)
- Histology of audioreceptor

6. 7th semester:
a. Basic Biomedical Science in Elective:
- Basics of histology
- Cell junction and cell communication
- Cell cycle
- DNA replication
- Proliferation and differentiation of cell
- Apoptosis


B. LABORATORY:
1. 1st semester:
a. Basic Science in Medicine (General Knowledge):
- Structure of epithelial tissue and connective tissue

2. 2nd semester:
a. Control System:
- Nerve tissue and nervous system
- Endocrine system
b. Hematological and Immunological System:
- Morphology of blood element
- Lymphoid organ

3. 3rd semester:
a. Reproductive system:
- Histological structure of female reproductive organ
- Histological structure of male reproductive organ

4. 4th semester:
a. Dermatomusculoskeletal System:
- Histology of skin tissue and muscle
- Histology of bony tissue
b. Cardiovascular System:
- Circulatory system
c. Respiratory System:
- Histology of respiratory system

5. 5th semester:
a. Genitourinary System:
- Histology of genitourinary system
b. Gastrointestinal System:
- Histological structure of wall layer and organ that associated with digestive tract
c. Special Senses System:
- Photoreceptor system of eye
- Histology of audioreceptor

**The topic currently discussed in my university may different from this syllabus due to progression of medical knowledge and improvement of quality for medical syllabus based on my university assessment.
