Physics

The purpose I share my medical syllabus during my era is to help me know the topic should I revise during my free time to improve my medical knowledge and to give an idea for future medical students about the topic they would learn in medical school.

Topic of Physics discussed during my time in Medical School:

A. LECTURE:
1. 1st semester:
a. Basic Science in Medicine (General Knowledge):
- Introduction to microscope
b. Basic Science in Medicine (Diagnosis and Therapy/ Intervention at Cellular/ Molecular Level):
- Instrumental units
- Characteristic and theory of error in measurement
- Usage technique and care of laboratory instruments
- Microscope and optical devices
- Radiotheraphy: Emission and absorption of radiation, ionizing radiation effect to biological system in cell and biomolecular level, CT, CT-Scan, TOMOtherapy, PET Scan, Nuclear Medicine, Fluoroscopy, radioisotope in medicine, principle of laser ray, ultrasonic, MRI and their usage in Medicine

2. 2nd semester:
a. Control System:
- Control theory in biological systems
b. Metabolism System: 
- Body temperature regulation
- Body temperature measurement

3. 4th semester:
a. Dermatomusculoskeletal System:
- Muscle and force
b. Cardiovascular System:
- Physics of the cardiovascular system
- Cardiovascular instrumentation
c. Respiratory System:
- Physics of lungs and respiration
- Fluid and Pressure: Pascal's principle, Dalton, Boyle, Laplace Law, Hendry Law, flow, Poiseuille's law, laminar flow, turbulent flow, Bernoulli Effect and Entrainment, cohesion and adhesion, Barometric effect to air in lungs and oxygen partial pressure over height and depth under water

4. 5th semester:
a. Genitourinary System:
- Biomechanic pressure in genitourinary system
- Osmosis and kidney
b. Gastrointestinal System:
- Biomechanic pressure of abdominal cavity
c. Special Senses System:
- Physics of eye and sighting
- Source and characteristic of light
- Aspect of ocular nerve
- Electroretinogram (ERG), electro-oculogram (EOG), visual field, eye pressure, ophthalmoscopy
- Physics of hearing: Ear and hearing, sound and hearing, ears and audiometry, sound in medicine, mechanism of nerve involving in hearing process

5. 6th semester:
a. Brain and Mind System:
- Bioelectric of body: Nervous system, electrical signal from brain
- Usage of electric and magnet


B. LABORATORY:
1. 1st semester:
a. Basic Science in Medicine:
- Introduction to microscope
b. Basic Science in Medicine (Diagnosis and Therapy/ Intervention at Cellular/ Molecular Level):
- Laboratory instrument principle: Spectroscope and polarimeter

2. 2nd semester:
a. Metabolism System:
- Calorimeter
- Types of thermometer and their usage, body and skin temperature measurement
b. Hematological and Immunological System:
- Stokes Law (Erythrocytes Sedimentation Rate test)

3. 4th semester:
a. Respiratory System:
- Determination of humidity of air and surface tension level

4. 5th semester:
a. Genitourinary System:
- Measurement of specific gravity
b. Gastrointestinal System:
- Ultrasonography (USG) and endoscopy in digestive tract
c. Special Senses System:
- Ophthalmometer/eye defect
- Audiometer/ Malde experiment



*This medical syllabus copied and edited from 2 manual books for 1st semester medical student, 3 manual books for 2nd semester medical student, 3 manual books for 4th semester medical student, 3 manual books for 5th semester medical student and 1 manual book for 6th semester medical student from my university during my era. 
**The topic currently discussed in my university may different from this syllabus due to progression of medical knowledge and improvement of quality for medical syllabus based on my university assessment.
